Welcome to ED4130 Technology curriculum and pedagogy.
This course is offered in Semester 1 each year online (WEB mode) and on all three campuses (Fraser Coast, Springfield, and Toowoomba) subject to meeting minimum enrolment requirements. It makes extensive use of the USQStudyDesk (Moodle) environment and other Internet resources for all study modes and campuses. You should ensure that you have reliable access to the Internet and that you check StudyDesk and your USQ email regularly for information that will assist you to complete the course successfully.
NOTE that the course specification indicates 160 hours of student workload for this course across a 15 to 16 week semester. That implies that you should plan to spend about 10 hours per week on average working on the course. If you are enrolled in an ONC offer you will have 30 hours (3 hours x 10 weeks) of scheduled classes [1 hour lecture, 1 hour computer laboratory, 1 hour tutorial/workshop]. If you are enrolled in the WEB offer expect to spend a similar amount of time on equivalent activities. Most of the learning activities, in or out of class, are directly linked to assessment. Your best strategy for success will be to work consistently from week to week.
EDP4130 has an embedded professional experience. In 2015 that is scheduled for weeks 8 to 10 of the semester, immediately following the mid-semester recess. Specific expectations for the professional experience embedded in this course are described in the professional experience booklet. The focus of the course is technology education in primary schools. It will include exploration of the concept of technology, various perspectives on technology, approaches to technology education, and the practicalities of planning, teaching, and assessing technology education as appropriate to the relevant Australian and Queensland curriculum documents.

You will have access to a variety of resources provided through USQStudyDesk and/or in classes if you are enrolled on one of the campuses. The resources may include recordings (audio or video) of lectures and other materials, detailed instructions for completing learning activities, and links to reading material. You will be responsible for ensuring satisfactory progress of your own learning by accessing the resources and participating in learning activities as appropriate.

You are invited to join the EDP4130 S1 2015 group in the Mahara eportfolio system. You can join by following these instructions. Some of the images indicate that the instructions were prepared for the 2012 group but they should work just as well in the current version of the system.
The course group in Mahara would be a suitable location for sharing project work for your assessment and recording progress in the blog/joournal.
Consider using Twitter as part of your professional learning network (PLN). The Twitter hashtag for the course is #edp4130 and a Twitter widget has been installed in the StudyDesk space to pipe tweets with that hashtag into the space. If you subscribe to Twitter you will be able to use the hashtag on your tweets to share resources with the class.
In a previous offer a Diigo group was established for the EDP4130 course and I have continued to share selected bookmarks for web resources through that group. The links shared with the group are piped through a panel in the StudyDesk and you can access them there. If you wish, you can request to join the group but that is not necessary to access the links. If you do register on Diigo and join the group then you should be able to post links to the group and use that method to share them with the class.
